Batumi
Batumi Archaeological Museum located in the city center, stands out with its architectural design, remarkable aesthetic, and unique archaeological exhibition. The museum established in 1994, displays ancient artifacts found on the territory of southwestern Georgia dated to 300-400 000 BC, from the ancient Roman, Hellenistic, Byzantine, and medieval periods of times including, gold, bronze, and iron. The ancient exhibit represented at the museum showcases, that the region belongs to part of the World’s oldest civilizations. Since 2004 the museum has been granted the status of an immovable monument of cultural heritage. Khariton Akhvlediani Museum of Ajara was established in 1908 and houses an extraordinary collection of over 180,000 exhibits, and archaeological items from the XII-IX c.c. B.C.: engraved axes, bronze ram, and samples from the Gonio Treasury. There are displayed over 2,000 rare manuscripts in Georgian, Armenian, Arabic, Turkish, Persian, and other languages.
